General Function / Purpose
The JG-1 Mechanic (Set-Up) is responsible for all maintenance repair and operation of the sterilization processes, including sterilizer, Nordion equipment, conveyors, shrink wrap, bar code, palletizer and stretch wrap machines. Maintain proper flow of product through sterilization and ensure quality specifications are met. Cross-trains and fills in for the operator / techs and receiving / sterile processing associates.

Job Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED required (minimum).
Vocational/Technical school preferred.
Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills & Abilities
Minimum of 2 years’ technical or mechanical experience
Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
Working knowledge of CAM motions, gear reduction, gear drive transmissions, prime movers and pneumatic, hydraulic components such as valves, solenoids, cylinders and control devices.
Working knowledge of pneumatic and fluidic controls.
Basic electrical and electronic knowledge sufficient to troubleshoot problems and assist electronic technician in repairs.
Certifications:
Become a licensed irradiator operator within 12 months in position.
Supervisory Responsibility:
May be required to take a leading role, such as assigning activities to other Associates who perform work that is similar or closely related to this position.
Computer Skills Required for Position:
SAP
Basic keyboarding& navigational skills.
Bartender Label printing program
ITS program to record sterilization run information.
Essential Functions:
Minimum Job Level Requirements – Certified to perform all operations and perform preventive maintenance on all machines. Perform repairs & machine adjustments on all equipment in sterilization. Assist Engineer and/or electronic technician with other repairs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities –
High school diploma or equivalent
1 year previous BD experience desired
Proficient at reading & writing English, good interpersonal skills, able to use computer with basic windows.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Work with management to identify and eliminate safety hazards.
Maintain and repair mechanical equipment valued at over $5,000,000.
Requires to troubleshoot and differentiate between mechanical and/or electrical problems.
If mechanical, required to make repairs in a manner that will facilitate a safe and effective repair by adjusting, replacement or rebuilding etc.
If electrical contact department electronic personnel and assist as necessary.
Examine the machines at the start of each shift to determine if they are functioning properly.
Clear all machine jams, using safety interrupt procedures.
Maintain accurate production and maintenance records for processing of materials through the entire operation, ASLU and supporting equipment.
Schedule work and requisition material as required.
Must be able to adjust machines to maintain production at all times including changeover.
Maintain all machinery as required per a preventive maintenance schedule and document.
Performs or assists in all repairs and maintenance of equipment within department.
Is not authorized to modify or make revisions to machines without approval of engineering technician and/or proper authorities.
Required to talk to outgoing and incoming shifts on the operational condition of the equipment.
Responsible for training and certifying departmental personnel on the ASLU system and supporting equipment.
Work closely with operators to ensure accuracy of counts at ASLU system and palletizer.
Minimize mechanical safety risk by ensuring appropriate procedures are followed and safety standards are met.
In the event of prolonged downtime or a radiation emergency, be able to advise RSO of the nature and duration of the problem or emergency and take proper action.
Minimize quality risks due to mechanical machinery/equipment.
This includes maintaining systems so that sub-standard product is not processed.
Abide by all Federal and State radiation regulations and BD policies and procedures.
Ability to work with little to no supervision.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned by Team Leader and required to support the needs of the business. Charge batteries on Fork Trucks. Keep machines and surrounding area neat and clean.
Working Conditions
High speed manufacturing environment. Must remain alert and focused.
Indoor heated and cooled environment, although there are times of extreme heat in the summer and cold in the winter.
Some daily intermittent exposure to noise, vibration and fumes.
Work in awkward positions and on ladders for extended periods of time.
Some physical exertion is required.

Employees must follow all GMP/QSR rules.
Have accountability to team members, as well as to the Team Leader and communicate between shifts.
Must be multi-skilled & become certified within specified time limits
Must have regular attendance
Will cover each other's job responsibilities for absences due to any reason
Will be required to pass forklift training class and driving test in order to perform material handling responsibilities
As part of ADA, may not pose a direct threat or significant risk to himself/herself or others
Required to pass an FBI background check
