JOB DESCRIPTION
The Business Development group at BD Biosciences complements the business’s internal product development capabilities by identifying and acquiring innovative technologies and products from external partners. These partners include universities, research institutions, and companies, both large and small, in all parts of the world. Business Development works closely with multiple functions across BDB to evaluate potential partnering opportunities, in alignment with the business’s strategic, financial, and operational goals, and has primary responsibility for executing business deals with partners.
The Sr Manager, Business Development - Biomarkers, will be responsible for all activities necessary to support all aspects of the Companion Diagnostics (CDx) Strategy and Team at BD Biosciences. This includes identification, cultivation, negotiation, finalization, and on-going relationship management of all opportunities and partnerships associated with CDx. The Sr Manager is intended to contribute significantly to formulation of the overall strategy of the CDx initiative while managing both inbound and development of outbound opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with other members of the CDx Team, identifies and prioritizes external partnership opportunities for BD Biosciences in the CDx space.
Structures and negotiates business agreements to support CDx partnerships. These may include product development, product commercialization, licensing, material transfer and confidentiality agreements. Some agreements may involve multiple parties.
Works collaboratively with other internal functions to assess market potential, financial viability, technical relevance, manufacturing feasibility, quality and regulatory considerations, and intellectual property and legal implications, of potential new business opportunities in CDx space.
Assists with preparing and presenting new CDx business opportunities to leadership.
Manages long-term relationships with CDx partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in the life sciences.
An advanced degree in the life sciences or business administration is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 8 years of business development experience in the life sciences, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
Demonstrated track record of success structuring and negotiating complex business agreements.
Experience working with or at Bio-Pharma companies is preferred.
Familiarity with FDA and international regulatory systems is desirable, particularly as related to CDx products.
Other Qualifications
Ability to come up-to-speed quickly on new technology areas.
Excellent presentation and communication skills, verbal and written.
Capable of working independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Able to work on multiple projects with competing priorities.
Experience working in a highly-matrixed organization.
Able to travel up to 30% of time.
