Description:
- Completes all set ups and operates a variety of machine tools to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
- Determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup
- Uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Performs standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Work closely with engineers on projects.
- Assist other operators.
- Can troubleshoot basic issues.
- Trains new hires on basic skills.
- Will operate within the plant/shop safety rules and maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Maintains quality and productivity levels during the manufacturing process.
- Operates and adheres to general plant rules and policies governing workplace conduct, performance, EH&S policies and good documentation practices.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices in his work area and the plant in general.
- Works cohesively with others in a team environment.
- Occasional movement of product weighing up to 50 pounds from one work station to another.
- Visual acuity adequate to detect subtle visual product non-conformities.
Required Competencies:
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Requires a completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Skills
- Capable of reading and interpreting part prints and can follow the procedures necessary to manufacture high level and high quality instruments.
- Must be able to read measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers.
Experience
- 3-5 years related work experience and/or training required
- Experience in manual machining, CNC Swiss style lathes, or CNC Milling
