Summary/Purpose of PositionThe Manufacturing Engineering Manager will be the site engineering team leader for the function. This person will be responsible for detailed project management, engineering support and direction for manufacturing engineering activities to support the continuity of business for all products at the Woburn site. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will also be responsible for collaborating with the design center for commercialization of new products, line extensions, maintenance of business (MOB) and capacity/capital improvement plans. This person acts as the critical technical SME/liaison between the plant and the design center. They will also plan, organize and coordinate the activities of direct reports and participate as an active member of the site’s Leadership Team.

Summary/Purpose of Position

Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities
Support the plant’s activities including creation of plans and schedules for projects:
Purchasing and installing/validating new equipment and production areas
Process improvements and validations (TMVs, IQ/OQ/PQ)
Scaling chemical batch processing
Supporting investigations and requirements of the QMS
Finding opportunities for improvement in the areas that may include:
Material flow/lean improvements
Efficiency in material and labor usage
Preparation and presentation of AFEs
Performance Management Responsibilities:
Leading and coordinating activities that involve multi-functional teams
Establishing priorities and assigning work to team
Providing updates to all levels of the organization
Developing and maintaining budgets
Developing, coaching and performance management of direct reports
Advising team to facilitate schedule achievement or resolve technical/operational problems in support of plant goals
Reviews and approves documentation and checks for completeness and accuracy
Acts as an internal consultant for other projects within Woburn, Davol and Bard
Collaborate with Product Development/R+D Team to successfully support all activities to launch, transfer, maintain and commercialize new or legacy products from design to manufacturing including participation in the following areas:
Development and management of a transition plan and team
Process and method documentation, methods and labor standards review
Component inventory transition plan
Facility selection, coordination & preparation
Coordination and validation of all new supplier tooling and molds
Equipment moves and installation
IQ, OQ, PQ protocol development and execution.
Validation and training support
Design reviews and design for manufacturability
Evaluation and recommendation of new materials
Changes to legacy products’ cost estimates or process in conjunction with the design center.
Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
B.S Degree in Engineering required.
Bachelor of Science degree required, Chemical Engineering preferred.
Minimum of (7) years relevant experience required
MS or MBA degree preferred
Experience in process chemistry, analytical test method development, chemical process scaling preferred
Experience in manufacturing collagen based and/or PMA (Class-III) products a plus
Demonstrated proficiency in project management and leadership
High level of written and verbal communication skills
Ability to conceptualize ideas, motivate and focus individuals and teams and drive projects through completion on time and on budget
Understanding and ability to complete DOE, Process validations, and Test method validations
Ability to analyze, present and defend data using statistical methods and techniques
Understanding of GMPs and medical device regulations as they apply to manufacturing
Strong skills for coaching, developing and guiding team.

Scope and Impact of Position:
Impacts design for manufacturability and cost effectiveness of existing or new processes transferred to manufacturing.
