Senior Hardware Engineering – Central Fill Delivery Lead – Pharmacy Automation
In recent years, Medication Management Solutions (MMS) has built on this history through a significant expansion into the high-growth pharmacy automation space and is now one of the global leaders in pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Automation platform positions BD to offer our pharmacy customers a more comprehensive set of smart, connected care technologies as they expand care to new settings, centralize their pharmacy operations and lead the charge in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the industry, including health care worker burnout and the global clinician shortage. BD’s Pharmacy Automation portfolio covers a wide range of hardware and software technologies from storage and dispensing robots, vision solutions, pouch packagers, vial filling systems, blister card production systems, central fill solutions and enterprise pharmacy management software solutions.
This technical leader will be responsible for leading the design and development of key hardware development activities and quality improvements within the pharmacy automation central fill portfolio.
DUTIES & DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive strategic direction to improve customer satisfaction, reduce cost, and deliver other sustaining and NPD activities within Pharmacy Automation’s Central Fill Portfolio.
Collaborate with multi-functional development teams to brainstorm and define technical product strategies and technology roadmaps. Establish a hardware architecture that meets requirements within a standardized set of product offerings.
Clearly articulate the vision and plan as to how a concept could transition into a profitable solution. If required quickly drive hardware concepts into prototypes to validate feasibility and eliminate risks.
Assess all proposed custom developments and proactively identify risks and issues and advance them as appropriate.
Apply a data driven structured initiative prioritization process to ensure the highest value items receive proper attention.
Develop an integrated R&D product development project plan to deliver and implement efficiently and with sound quality.
Collaborate with core teams and other functional leaders to ensure that proposed hardware developments are aligned with organizational goals and objectives and provide updates of program performance metrics and progress of plans.
Apply best engineering practices in design, analysis, simulation, integration, test, and documentation in all engineering subject areas.
Ensure alignment to company processes and procedures including Design Controls, Product Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management, Phase Reviews.
Apply Design for Six Sigma development methodologies and other best-in-class R&D tools across the portfolio and provide training and guidance to assigned team members as needed.
Provide labor and non-labor needs and schedule estimations for hardware related scope and work.
Plan and administer yearly portfolio budget to ensure proper execution of deliverables are aligned to business value.
Work with R&D functional leaders to assign engineering subject areas necessary to achieve key goals.
Provide strategic and tactical leadership to in-direct reports with the ability to deep dive into technical issues.
Clearly articulate goals and expectations to individual contributors to support the team`s success while constructively mentoring and giving appropriate feedback.
Help support a data driven culture.
Closely monitor product field performance and conduct RCA analysis on top field failures.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering or related field
5 years related work experience in R&D technical engineering leadership roles or a PhD in a relevant engineering subject area with 3 years of industry experience. (Central Fill medication fulfillment experience desired)
In depth knowledge of automated equipment including, robotics, conveyance and associated process control.
Knowledge of simulation software with strong ability to proactively model and analyze system performance.
Understanding of full cycle product development and quality management systems.
Experience in the design and development of medical device systems or other FDA regulated products.
Solid understanding of current safety and regulatory standards for automated equipment.
Experience working with global teams and with external development partners.
Leadership experience in a complex development environment in partnership with a matrixed organization and external technical suppliers.
Ability to lead multi-discipline engineering teams that may consist of mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, control software engineers to meet planned landmarks.
Demonstrated analytical, decision making, prioritization and problem-solving skills.
Strong business acuity with steadfast focus on customer satisfaction, efficiency, and expedition in delivery of projects.
Experience with development milestone planning and project management methodologies (Agile and/or waterfall) for complex systems
Excellent cross-functional communication skills, strong technical writing skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to bring clarity to ambiguous areas to drive decisions.
15-30% travel will be expected
