Position Summary:                                            

This position performs the detailed purchasing function as part of the Supply Chain process from the requisition to vendor payment.  This includes, but not limited to the planning and scheduling of raw materials, the creation of purchase orders, supplier management, quality management, inventory control, budget review, interface with Global Procurement, interface with manufacturing/operations, generating cost savings, support of plant projects, ensuring compliance to all regulatory bodies and transportation review.  This position will also act as a liaison between the plant and the BD Shared Services Center for the invoice management process.  Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.  Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function.  Ability to read and write and converse in English.  Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Duties/Responsibilities:     

  • Responsible for balancing raw material supplies to meet production demand and inventory goals.

  • Manage life cycle of purchase order including confirmatin, lead time, pricing, open and past due PO’s and invoice process.

  • Determine inventory parameters, communicate delivery schedules, and expedite material.

  • Coordinate, as needed, with planners, quality, and suppliers for resolution of supplier issues (quality and/or delivery)

  • Develop and provide forecasts to finance to include raw material schedules, PPV forecasting, standards and any additional forecasting needed.

  • Develop and provide future demand forecasts to suppliers.

  • Frequently review and maintain the integrity of MRP parameters.

  • Maintain positive relationships with key suppliers to ensure ongoing continuity of supply.

  • Ensure local procurement processes are aligned with global procurement startegies for specific commodities. 

  • Maintain contractual, manage strategic supplier relationships and business critical supply issues with suppliers and intercompany sites.

  • Escalate potential issues, to serve leadership, global procurement, and business platforms as necessary.

  • Support process improvements and cost improvement projects as aligned with site strategy.

  • Support system processes, such as Aravo, Buysmart, and the Credit Card process.

  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Education:

  • Associate degree in business, or related field required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or relevant field preferred

Experience:          

  • Certified Purchasing Management and/or APICS certification preferred

  • Three years of supply chain/material planning experience preferred.

  • SAP experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MRP/ERP system knowledge – Proficient

  • Computer skills – Proficient

  • Communication and presentation skills required - Proficient

  • Project Management – Proficient

  • Purchasing functions and techniques (including PO generation, transportation, invoice resolution, warehousing, and inventory control) – Proficient

  • Sourcing, supplier relationship management and inventory management functions – Proficient

  • Quality Management Systems (QSR and ISO) – Proficient
