GENERAL FUNCTION

Reporting to the Manager, Molding, IDS, Specimen Management. The Sr. Engineer / Molding is responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing process technologies for BD SM products.  Primary activity includes applying Injection Molding experience to implement Quality improvements, Capacity expansion, Sustaining and Cost Reduction Projects.  Works closely with R&D, Quality and manufacturing locations to implement these manufacturing technologies.

As its primary function, the Operations Engineering Molding Team works extensively with BD IDS plant locations and external suppliers to deliver on significant capacity expansion, quality improvement and operational excellence projects as well as key technical development efforts. The Operations Engineering Team partners with BD IDS plants and supplier engineering teams to identify, communicate and support the adoption of best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge / Technical Proficiency

• Define requirements for injection molding processes and develop molding specific documents/procedures.

• Develops User Requirement Specifications (URS) for injection molds, presses and ancillary equipment’s.

• Ability to understand and interpret product and mold drawings.

• Provide technology input to guide product development and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

• Ability of operate Injection Molding Machines.

• Working knowledge of scientific molding principals and experience with application of such.

• Ability to develop and execute injection molding process development activities including, Design of Experiments (DOE) and validations including writing protocols and reports (IQ, OQ & PQ)

• Understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) systems and active participation on root cause analysis.

• Provide technology advises and directives to vendors and plant technicians to accomplish project objectives.

• Works with cross functional team to investigate & implement solutions to injection molding processes.

CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION

• Works with Quality, R&D, Clinical and Regulatory team members to ensure successful implementation of molding validations.

• Works with diverse functions and manufacturing sites to achieve molding project goals.

• Provide technical support to Project/Process Engineers if applicable, in investigations such as: Corrective and Preventive Actions, Customer Complaints and Quality Notifications.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Possible travel required up to 50 to 75%.

• Works under general direction. Independently figures out and develops approach to solutions.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Plastics Engineering or a related technical field.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 3-5 years confirmed experience in a commercial molding environment.

• Preferred:

  • High volume manufacturing.

  • Medical device, in-vitro diagnostic products, or pharmaceutical products.

  • RJG Master Molder training/certification.

  • Six Sigma certification.

• Experience with AutoCAD or 3D Design Softwares.
