The BD Professional Services Department manages, plans and coordinates the implementation of BD Medication Management, Infusion Technology and Pharmacy Automation Solutions.
The Senior Pharmacy Consultant is a registered pharmacist in Canada who leads and collaborates with project teams comprised of internal and external, cross-functional, multidisciplinary members working in synergy toward the common goal of a successful, on-time implementation of Medication Management and Infusion Technology solutions.
Activities include project management governance, product/solution implementation, workflow assessment, system design, configuration and validation, integration engineering functions and general customer relationship and partnering activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Communication
- Facilitation of conference calls and customer meetings primarily for BD product implementations.
- Establishes rapport with customers that is conducive to long-term business relationships.
- Provides team support and product information on BD Medication Systems products as assigned by manager. Mentors team members to ensure product and process competency.
- Manages complex customer teams, gains consensus within teams, and delivers concise and consistent communication.
- Guides the review of customer site assessment and facilitates project design and implementation of BD Medication Systems products and technologies.
Technical
- Demonstrates expert knowledge of pharmacy/clinical workflow processes.
- For dispensing implementations, demonstrates expert knowledge of hospital formulary build, hospital & pharmacy system integration, clinical device settings, interface validation (ADT, billing, patient profile), user account role design, active directory.
- For infusion implementations, demonstrates expert knowledge of hospital data set/drug library build, pharmacy system integration, clinical device settings and interface validation.
- Completes pharmacy and clinical pre-implementation assessments and future state design.
- Interacts with, and guides, diverse cross-functional teams, including large hospitals and health systems.
- Demonstrates expertise of established BD Medical Systems Dispensing product implementation methodologies and tools or equivalent industry standards, as well as established BD Medication Systems Infusion product implementation methodologies and tools or equivalent industry standards.
- Can multi-task and to implement complex multi-site projects consistent with established company and customer objectives.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to aid customers in improving current business/practice operations, including standardization across large hospital and/or health systems.
- Demonstrates advanced problem-solving, troubleshooting and system consultation as it relates to pharmacy workflow and best practice considerations and health system standardization.
- Installs and supports BD Medical Systems Dispensing software and BD Medical Systems Infusion hardware and software solutions.
- Mentors team members on products, best practices and customer education.
- Acts as a customer support resource when necessary.
Administrative
- Coordinates client resources and assigns project tasks.
- Actively leads projects when required.
- Works independently.
- Timely completion of internal company and project documentation.
- Determines own work priorities.
- Possesses excellent organizational skills with the flexibility to readily adapt to change.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Registered Pharmacist in Canada required.
- 5-10 years of experience in healthcare environment with technical (systems) involvement and computerized system applications - Required
- Dispensing and infusion software technology experience Required
- Expertise in Health Information Systems / Pharmacy Information Systems/ Electronic Medical Record systems and pharmacy and nursing workflows is required.
- Experience with integrated delivery networks/large health systems an asset
- Experience with BD Medication Management Solutions technologies across Dispensing, Infusion and Pharmacy Automation platforms preferred
- This is a field home-based position with travel requirements of approximately 50%, or as required. Overnight travel and travel during non-standard business hours may be required. Flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends, as necessary. Ability to travel to locations in Canada for management of projects and in the USA for training or meeting purposes is a requirement for the role.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. This position may involve pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in Canada and a past clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years, as well as meet BD's auto safety standards.
- Fluency in English (read, speak, write) required to communicate with colleagues and customers is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of relevant clinical and business operations, products, and services.
- Possesses healthcare project or management experience and demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of management methodologies and relevant clinical and IT operations
- Understands customer medication management workflows and can contribute and consult on best practices involving BD MMS technology
- Dedication to meeting and exceeding project deliverables and customer expectations
